Today I received a ticket from a user concerned about a sudden spike in their data input usage.
First off, I want to reassure everyone that here at TagoIO, we never make changes to how data is counted without clear communication, and there are no hidden “surprises” in your resource usage (:
So if you’re seeing unexpected spikes, the cause is usually something in your own setup. Let’s break down the most common reasons for sudden data input spikes:

A device sending data too often, maybe a firmware update changed the reporting interval, or there’s a loop in your device code.

An analysis generating extra data: a rule or automation might be running more frequently than intended, or creating new data points you didn’t expect.
What you can do right now:

Review device settings and data-sending intervals.

Check any active analyses, automations, or dashboards that might be creating additional data.

Look at your data input logs for the last 24–48 hours to spot unusual patterns.
Doing this will most likely help you find the source of the increase.
