Use Tag as label to device field in Input Form

I have some input form widgets to generate reports where I have to list devices to user choose, but I have to use simple dropdown because have to use a label that user understand what is chosen, if we have a option to use a tag as label in this field type, the way to do this kind of widget would be more simple.

Hi Julhiermes Melo,

Thanks for sharing your idea.

I don’t know if you’ve ever used it, but the Input Form widget, you can use the **Field type: Device**, which allows you to:

When enabled, the dropdown will list devices based on the configured tags, using the device name as the label shown to the user.

If you need to allow selecting multiple devices, there’s also the **Field type: Device Multiple** option.

I’m not sure if this fully meets your needs, but I hope it helps.

Hi Mateus!

Yes, I know that I can filter the devices by tag, but the label is the device name, my idea is use another tag as label, like in dashboard blueprint. Its matter to user choose a device with a name that his understand what is choose. I use some pattern to my devices name, which include serial or EUI and customer names, that information is not relevant to users and will cause some confusion.

Hi Julhiermes Melo,

Gotcha, while the device name is used as the label by default, we recommend storing technical identifiers like serial numbers and EUI or customer names in tags, not in the device name itself. This way, the device name can remain clear and meaningful for end-users.

It`is not practical for us, we use infos like serials in the device name to easily find this devices in daily use.

Julihermes,

I understand, I got the point now. Thanks for this idea!
We’ll definitely consider it for future updates. At the moment, there’s no estimated timeline for this.
