TagoIO will soon stop providing SMS and Email services

Hi everyone!

Last year, we announced that we were planning to discontinue SMS services in 2024 due to a series of new requirements and technology constraints that prevented TagoIO from providing message delivery at the expected level. Now, we are confirming the end date of the services (including email) and how we will be helping customers to make the transition. Please continue reading below for the changes, deadlines, and how we can help you.

End of SMS Services - November 1, 2024

Due to the increasing complexity of compliance imposed by regulatory authorities in different countries when dealing with SMS services and the inability of some telecoms to guarantee message delivery from a centralized system like TagoIO, we have decided to discontinue the SMS service available for developers.

We will stop offering SMS for all accounts on Nov 1, 2024. We will provide easy integration with service providers such as Twilio and AWS, allowing customers to use their tokens and continue using SMS services normally in their TagoIO applications. By using external providers, customers will have more control over their messages and access to logs.

TagoIO will still provide SMS services for the 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) managed by our TagoIO admin. We will also honor current multi-year contracts.

End of Email Services - January 1, 2025

We have identified the need to give total control of Email message delivery to our customers, given that TagoIO doesn’t have control over the type and content of the emails. Depending on the country, industry segment, and type of message (alert, marketing, etc), the email provider needs to comply with various requirements that TagoIO cannot meet due to the unlimited possibilities of customer use. To improve delivery and increase control of email services, we have decided to stop offering email services on Jan 1, 2025.

To assist with this transition, we will provide easy integration with external email providers so customers can use their own tokens.

TagoIO will still provide email services for the 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) managed by our TagoIO admin, as well as for sign-up and password reset emails sent to RUN users. We will also honor current multi-year contracts.

We will work together

As mentioned above, we will provide easy integration with external providers for both SMS and Email services. Our team is working to provide tutorials and examples for the community very soon and will additionally help customers directly as needed.

We recognize that changes like these are not welcome, as they demand additional steps from our customers to integrate them with external systems. Nevertheless, we continue to provide easy-to-use tools for IoT and work hard to ensure they are robust for every application.

If you have any questions about these changes, contact us at customercare@tago.io or speak with your assigned Customer Success Manager (CSM).

Hi everyone!

I just updated the topic with a link on how to send SMS using the Twilio Integration.

You can also access it here: Check how to send SMS with Twilio Integration

=)

This is great, do the same for voice, and also email via sendgrid!

Hi chirsautomates,

I’m glad to inform you that we’re working on SMTP integration for both actions and analysis, which we plan to roll out in the coming weeks. This will allow integration with various email services, including SendGrid, Google, Apple, AWS, and others.

It’s worth mentioning that our current TagoIO Analysis already supports integration with any existing service using NodeJS or Python code. The upcoming integrations support will add an extra layer of stability and ease of use through our SDK and Actions.

We will add it soon! Voice message is something people have been asked, and there are some good providers that will integrate soon and write a quick tutorial.

Hey chrisautomates,

You can now easily integrate TagoIO with the SendGrid API. It’s achievable using this new type of action: Send email with SendGrid

Hi,

We’re currently using an email service for a few different tasks, like notifying customers about alerts, generating PDFs, and some other stuff.

Since this email service is going to be deactivated soon, can you suggest some alternative solutions we could use in our analysis?

Hi Techiot,

TagoIO is actively working on supporting alternative solutions for both SMS and Email services. Here’s an update on our progress:

  • SMS: We’ve already implemented Twilio integration through actions and official SDK support for analysis. A tutorial for using this in analysis is coming soon.

  • Email: In the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing SMTP integration for both actions and analysis. This will allow you to integrate with various email service providers such as SendGrid, Google, Apple, AWS, and others.

We’re committed to continually improving our platform based on user needs and experiences. As we identify areas where additional integrations could benefit our users, we’ll work on implementing them.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we work through these changes.

Hey team!

You can use Actions to integrate any email service with SMTP or send emails with the SendGrid Email API.

Check the hyperlinks or this doc: Defining Actions.

Hi Phil

As a long time user of TagoIO, I see very bad the way the company is taking, removing every time features that came included or that could be purchased and now forcing us to purchase external services. The damage would have been less, if at least they had given much more advance notice (6 months - 1 year before), at least to the paying users to be able to look for ways to adapt, and not have to find out by a publication of UD.

Personally I have business logic and analysis implemented with emails and SMS, and I have a contract with my clients to give them this service. Now I have to dedicate man-hours to adapt my analysis and all my logic with external alternatives.

It is with regret that I have to start looking for alternatives, because at any moment you can change the rules of the game and we as users only have to comply.

Hi Loratech team, we would love to keep the services, but the only way it can work is by having the controllers (developers that own the account) submitting requesting to the SMS and Email providers to guarantee access to them as per their rules. We are doing our best to keep this for a longer period while we manage the risks. We announced to all customers back on Oct, 11, 2023 about our end of SMS planned for March, but we postponed the deadline. Anyway, we understand that it would be much better if we could keep the services as is.

We have helped customers to transition to other third party services that will in fact bring more benefits (Yeah, I know one more step, we hate that too.) Let me know how we can help in this transition.

By the way, we are deploying the integration and tutorial with SMTP for emails in the next few days.

Hi Phil,

When can we expect more details related to the new approach to email sending?

Hi team!

We expect that the new feature to easily integrate TagoIO with external email providers using SMTP will be ready very soon, likely by next week. We will update this post with more information.

We’re working on this with high priority! =)

Hey team,

We have added some new types of actions that you can use to send emails using SMTP or SendGrid.

Let us know if you have any question =)

Hi Phil,

Is it possible to add integration for sending messages/notification via WhatsApp? It would replace both, SMS and Email.

I know Twilio also has this service.

Hey Iaran,

Alright,

FYI, integration with WhatsApp is on our roadmap. There is no expected date at the moment, but the team is working on it. =)
