How to change data retention on devices with immutable bucket?

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago I migrated my buckets to the new version of the immutable bucket. Now I have also created new devices with immutable buckets. Currently, my buckets have a forever retention period, I understand that the only way to delete data is to change the retention period, but I can’t find the option to change it. I was reviewing your documentation but you only comment about it at the time of creating the device, but I also need to change this retention according to the storage needs I have. Please tell me how to change the retention from forever to another period.

In addition to this, and as a suggestion for TagoIO, it would be ideal to be able to adjust the retention period per variable and not for the whole global, because many times there are data that I want to keep forever, but others only for weeks or months.

Hi Loratech,

You should see the data retention set from Forever to the maximum of retention in your account, as Forever is not supported anymore.

If you need to change the period for your devices, currently the only way is by contacting the TagoIO support.

While you’re not able to set retention for specific variables, we are working on big improvements that can help you get around that. For now, the only way is to have two devices in your profile with different retention periods, and you need an analysis to copy the variables you want to keep stored to the second device.

Are we able to get any clarification on what is being looked at with the “big improvements”? Currently we are having to try to work out how to keep bucket size down, so looking at mutable buckets and stripping data out into an immutable bucket. The issue here is 1. The work required to do this, which potentially will become obselete once the improvements are made. 2. Having two buckets for one device is a hack at best, and the data from both buckets can’t be displayed in the same graph.
If you are able to provide some clarification that would be fantastic.

A few improvements that had been largely mentioned in webinars and other community environments are:

  1. Possibility to backup the chunks of your bucket before it get’s deleted.

  2. Being able to manually delete by API/SDK/Admin chunks of your bucket.

  3. Improvements on how to ignore variables which doesn’t need to use by device payload parser.

  4. User List widget that will allow you to fetch your users directly from the account to the dashboard.

The ones I mentioned are already in development for this year, with a few coming in the next months.

Aside from those ones, we continue to discuss and test internally how to approach common challenges that Application development needs to solve.
