When you go to add a reference line via variable there is no option to rename your variable with an alias name. This is something you guys should add and the alias name be display above the reference line.
Some other features that would be benficial:
1. Choose if reference line label is on the right or left side of graph.
2. Add reference line to the tooltip just like any other variable when hovered.
There are some other options, this changes from Widget to widget. For a complete list please visit this link. At the moment you can’t change the label’s position but this can definitely be added in the future
Is it possible to use the label metadata as a variable Alias? Like where it shows “start” on the legend of the chart, showing “Start pretty name”, which is stored in variable metadata?
Yes, it’s possible! The Line Chart widget has an internal configuration where you can set an Alias for each variable. This allows you to customize the label shown in the chart legend so instead of displaying the variable key like “start”, you can show something like “Start pretty name”, as you mentioned.
You can access this setting by clicking the gear icon next to the variable in your widget configuration. A panel will open where you can manually define the Alias, as shown in the image below.
zsu[@user:10061942044]zsu I know about the alias. But what if I am populating a device with some analysis result? I would like to set the alias throug some kind of metadata. Is it possible?
You can not add labels to each metadata value you are using within the line graph. Here’s a article that mentions all the use cases for metadata depending on the widget.
