How to manage data records?

Hi Everyone

How do i manage data records. What causes the data records size to grow. Is it the number of variables or the size of the data. I have tried deleting data from within variables but this has no effect. I think i need to delete the variable itself but how do i do that. Deleting the variable only deletes the contents not the variable itself. The only way to delete the unnecessary variables is to empty the bucket which deletes all variables including the ones i want to keep. I know for future to use a payload passer to prevent unnecessary variables from being stored in the bucket but i need to manage my existing buckets now to reduce the Data Record size.

Anyone have a solution for this.

Hi @flaxies,
Do you mean that your bucket shows the variable, but the variable has 0 content?

Data Records is only regarding how much data you have in each variable for your buckets. Deleting all variables will decrease your Data Records.

There are three ways to delete data:

  • You can enable Data Retention in your bucket, that way the data will be check for the Data Retention period each day and start to be deleted in a slow way.
  • You can go to the bucket and select the variables you want to delete. This will delete the records on the variable in a slow way each hour.
  • You can use the Restful API route to delete the records immediately, but it will use your Data Input for each data deleted.

Thanks @vitor

And the 25000/h how is that calculated.

And is there a way to delete a single variable from the bucket, that is the variable name and its data.

Thanks

Hi @flaxies

you can see how that output works here → https://docs.tago.io/en/articles/193-data-output-service

Yes there’s a way to delete a single variable. You should follow the 3rd point mentioned by Vitor above.

“- You can use the Restful API route to delete the records immediately, but it will use your Data Input for each data deleted.”

Please follow this link, it will guide you through https://docs.tago.io/en/articles/35-deleting-data

If you have any doubts about it, I will be assisting you.
